Non-Alcoholic French 75 Recipe
Another classic cocktail born during a war, the French 75 was invented by barman Harry MacElhone during World War I at his New York Style Parisian bar, Harry’s New York Bar.
A champagne-based cocktail, the French 75 has gone on to become one of the most popular drinks around the world, thanks to references in major Hollywood pictures like Casablanca and John Wayne’s A Man Betrayed. And today, it serves as a go-to cocktail for parties, celebrations, and nights out on the town of all varieties.
For anyone that’s tried to craft a French 75 cocktail before, it’s likely you discovered the drink’s little secret: no two recipes are ever quite the same. It seems as if this drink took on a life of its own as it grew in popularity, and every bartender around the world put their own spin on the classic. And for those of us looking to craft and serve a non-alcoholic French 75, this is fantastic news, because it means we can take a few liberties to make this alcohol-free cocktail work for us.
In our recipe, there are three main swaps we’ve done to build the perfect non-alcoholic French 75 drink. The first is with the gin base, which we have replaced in equal parts with Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Dry London Spirit, one of the best alcohol-free gin alternatives we’ve tasted on the market. The next swap is the champagne, which we exchange for Fre Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Brut Champagne, one of our personal favorites. And finally, for a little bit of added flavor that you may be missing in the alcohol-free version of this cocktail, we swap the simple syrup for a super fresh, 100% maple syrup. While this may sound a little strange at first, this swap actually helps replace a little bit of the body you lose when you remove the alcohol, yet does not add any sort of overpowering flavor.
The result is a perfectly crafted alcohol-free French 75 cocktail. But don’t just take our word for it…check out the recipe below and give it a try for yourself!
